Over 50 student unions, college environment clubs and other youngsters groups from across the country have ruined the passing of the EIA Notice 2020, demanding that it be put upon hold and rewritten as per suggestions by environmental experts to business lead India into a green recovery.
In an initiative spearheaded simply by Tarang, Ashoka University’s students’ team, and led by 20-year-old Pune-based Anjali Dalmia, a comprehensive letter authorized by student groups (including AISA, Youth4Swaraj, JNUSU, IISER, Jain College, Jindal Global Law School plus others) has been sent to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Environment Change, containing their concerns concerning the new EIA Draft Notification 2020.
In March 2020, throughout the Covid pandemic, the MoEFCC launched the draft Environment Impact Evaluation (EIA) 2020 notification. Students’ plus youth groups have strongly protested against the draft, saying it would be damaging for the ecology.
“We ought to use the EIA to bring India out from the Covid-19 pandemic as an environmentally conscious country through a green recovery. Whilst economic revival is a national concern, this should be done without compromising upon environment and society, as in the long term, it is our natural ecosystem that will support us,” said Dalmia.
